INFORMATION ON PROP 65
WHY DO I SEE A LABEL ON MY KINGSTON BRASS BOX THAT SAYS THAT THIS PRODUCT MAY CAUSE CANCER?
This label was included in your package as a way for Kingston Brass to comply with the California Safe Water Act of 1986; many products sold in California are required to carry this label. We are providing this label to inform customers of the presence of said substances, in this case lead.
All Kingston Brass faucets meet and exceed AB1953, a newer law that came into effect January 1, 2010 which mandates all faucets to have a lead content of no more than 0.25% weighted average in order to be considered “lead-free.”
The state of California has determined that this level of lead is safe and will not expose the consumer to any health related risks. In conclusion, even if the product may be found to contain trace amounts of a Proposition 65 listed substance, it does not mean that this product will cause cancer or birth defects. We are confident all our products are safe and do not pose a danger to the health of our consumers.
IF YOU CLAIM THAT YOUR PRODUCT IS SAFE, WHY DO YOU STILL INCLUDE THIS LABEL ON YOUR PRODUCTS?
The state of California requires that any product that contains any of the 300+ substances be labeled.
In our case, the only possible exposure is lead. But due to more recent California regulations (AB1953), all our faucets that could possibly carry water for human consumption are considered lead-free (since the amount of lead present in our product falls below the maximum state guidelines necessary to be considered lead-free).
I DO NOT LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, WHY DOES MY PRODUCT INCLUDE THAT LABEL?
Kingston Brass products are shipped throughout the United States as well as some foreign countries; it would be very difficult and time-consuming to foresee which products will be shipped solely to consumers within the state of California.
